YOUR FACILITATOR, EXPERTS AND GUIDE
DR. KATHIA PHD, ND, D.PHYT, CERT TCM, NIM
Dr. Kathia Roberts is an extraordinary healer, scientist, researcher, and priestess answering her calling as a Neteru Medicine Woman, leading pilgrimages to Egypt. Her passion for the ancient land and its wisdom led her on an in-depth personal path of transformation and initiation into the Egyptian MysteriesTeachings. She returns yearly to Egypt to deepen this connection on a solo pilgrimage to pay homage to Sekhmet, Hathor, and Isis, who has completely transformed her life.
Through this, she has overcome her struggles with depression, suicidal tendencies, anxiety, overwhelm, and self-destructive behaviors such as bulimia and acting out from a place of victimhood by stepping into her authentic truth, mastering stillness, and genuinely listening to what is present and needs tending to. Nurturing, loving, forgiving, and mothering herself. Taking action, being fully aware, walking a balanced path "the Path of MA'AT," that lends itself to the awakened human potential of observance and oneness, and treating everything, including yourself, as sacred and whole. |
Rising above limiting beliefs and reveling in her unique divine gifts to this world, remembering who she truly is. She applies this SOAR methodology in her healing programs, retreats, and pilgrimages.
She has 22 years of experience in the healing arts as a Naturopathic Doctor, Medical Herbalist, Sound Healer, and Aromatherapist. She regularly presents as a Keynote Speaker on "psychoacoustics" in the medical community and internationally. During the last decade of her integrative medicine practice, she realized the deep need for a unique, all-encompassing healing modality that instills lasting change. During her last pilgrimage while holding sacred space for deep unfolding for the 13 women she was leading through these energetic portals and a journey of self-discovery, she concluded as tears and laughter were sheared that this would be her life's work and the primary healing modality she applies because of its profound unmatched shifts in human consciousness and self-awareness. |
She then coined this concept as "Pilgrimage Medicine."A psycho-spiritual, fully embodied, life-changing experience. One that equips you to fully step into your wholesome power, take action, and SOAR above your limiting beliefs and ailments to live the life you deeply desire and deserve."
Her Sound Journeys through Ancient Egypt bring alive the specific healing frequency of each temple. This sacred landscaping provides an empty canvas for her angelic voice and ethereal symphony of sound healing instruments. It inspired her to recently release her first sound alchemy album, Shemu Journey, under her artist's name, Ankwet Ikas, which means Rainbow Earth Mother in Algonquin, given by a Native American Elder during a ceremony. |

HOW WELCOMING IS EGYPT TO LGBTQ TRAVELLERS?
Egypt is not as accepting of LGBTQ rights as some other nations in Africa. Conservative beliefs still prevail, and homosexual acts and gender diversity, while not technically illegal, are prosecuted under more ambiguous laws. Police crackdowns and entrapments have been reported. All visitors should maintain an understanding of cultural sensitivity regarding the issue. Regardless of orientation, discretion should be practiced in sites of antiquity as well as during day-to-day touring.

DO I NEED A VISA AND PASSPORT TO TRAVEL TO EGYPT?
Citizens of countries in North America are required to obtain a visa prior to entry. Typically a renewable 30 day visa will be issued. Obtaining the visa upon arrival at Cairo International Airport is also possible. A valid passport is mandatory. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date you expect to leave Egypt.
WHAT CURRENCY IS USED IN EGYPT?
The official currency of Egypt is the Egyptian Pound. Credit cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants and upscale shops. There are also ATMs available at hotels and outside major banks dispensing local currency.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO EGYPT?
The best time to visit Egypt would be during the winter months, from October to April. The temperatures are mild and pleasant, although evenings can become quite cool. December through January are the peak tourist months so expect large crowds if travelling at this time. The best time to enjoy the beaches, without having to endure the large crowds of summer tourists, would be from March to May. Temperatures at this time are warm and tourist sites are not too crowded.
IS THERE TRANSPORTATION WITHIN EGYPT?
Trains, buses, and taxis are the most common ways for tourists to travel between the cities in Egypt. There are also self-drive cars available that can be organized through your travel professional. Small or private tours are conducted in vans, sedans, and tourism vehicles.
IS EGYPT SAFE TO VISIT?
Tourism is the primary source of revenue for the Egyptian economy, therefore the government has taken exceptional steps to ensure safety and security for tourists. Egyptian cities are generally very safe and frequently patrolled by police and military, especially at airports and in any area where tourists frequent (such as the Red Sea resort towns of El Gouna and Hurghada). Egyptians have a well-earned reputation for warmth and kindness, and hold no negative feelings toward foreign visitors. Tourism numbers dipped considerably after the 2011 Revolution, but now, as the political and economic situations have stabilized, tourism numbers have rebounded as visitors have happily and safely returned to Egypt to experience this magnificent country and all of its incredible wonders.
While its security situation is frequently exaggerated by many media, Egypt is generally a safe country to travel. Most areas are considered as relatively safe, except North Sinai Governorate being generally at a higher risk level. Checkpoints are erected across several regions to ensure the safety of tourists. As for muggings, robberies, and other casual crimes, Egypt is also quite safe. You can find it is safe to walk the streets at night when most Egyptians start social activities and cities come alive. Most restaurants and cafés are open late into the night. The majority of Egyptian people are courteous and friendly to tourists.
Though traveling Egypt is quite safe, you cannot be too careful as for personal security. Planning your trip with a reputable tour operator can be a wise choice, as they know the updated security situations and thus customize your itinerary accordingly.

WHAT VACCINATIONS ARE REQUIRED OR SUGGESTED FOR TRAVEL TO EGYPT?
There are no compulsory vaccinations required for Egypt, however, we recommend you consult with your local travel clinic for the most up-to-date recommendations, particularly in regards to malaria prophylactics. Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required if you are coming from or have transited through an airport of a country where yellow fever occurs. Proof of vaccination is also required for travellers coming from or having transited through Eritrea, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, and Zambia.
DO I NEED TO TAKE ANTI-MALARIA TABLETS/INJECTIONS?
NO!! Malaria has not been in Egypt for well over 85 years and there is no need for any type of anti-malaria medication. To be honest, it is quite the obverse as any types of anti-malaria medication can actually cause side effects that will simply ruin your holiday. Just because Egypt is in Africa does not mean malaria is here as well.
CAN I BRING PRESCRIBED MEDICATION WITH MEDS?
Yes, but please ensure that you only bring enough for your stay, with just a few day’s extra supplies as a backup. It would also help if you could bring the prescription as well, as proof, or for topping up (there are many pharmacies in Egypt that can do this for you). If you happen to be traveling onwards from Egypt, and so have a lot more of your prescribed medicine with you, please ensure that you do have the prescription as proof.
IS IT SAFE TO DRINK THE WATER IN EGYPT?
Yes, but not advised! Egyptian water has a high chlorine level in it which can upset the microbes in your stomach, causing diarrhea. For drinking purposes it is far safer to stick with bottled water, ensuring the seal is intact before drinking it.
IS IT SAFE TO BRUSH MY TEETH WITH TAP WATER?
Egyptian water is highly chlorinated, not poisonous, and so it is perfectly safe to do this. You often swallow small amounts of water whilst in the shower, or swimming, and this causes no problems, so why should clean your teeth?
IS EGYPT A FAMILY-FRIENDLY DESTINATION?
Egypt is most definitely a good place to visit on a family vacation. It offers a number of museums where you can view ancient Egyptian artifacts and many more pieces representative of Egyptian history. Ancient tombs, temples, and pyramids are generally accessible to all ages. If looking to relax, Egypt also offers a number of beaches, ideal for rounding off your Egypt family vacation.
WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN EGYPT?
Generally, Egypt has a desert climate, but the Mediterranean coastal areas enjoy a moderate temperature thanks to the prevailing wind. The climate features a hot season from May to October and a cool season from October to May. In the hot season, it is dry and hot in most parts of the country, and humid in the Nile Delta and Mediterranean coastal areas. So sun protection is the most important consideration for this season, especially for the fair-skinned. Pure cotton clothes and sunhats are essential. In the cool season, the weather is mild with some rain; it is bright and sunny in most days but usually cold in nights.
The most humid area lies along the Mediterranean coast. The precipitation declines sharply from north to south. It may rain once in a few years in many desert areas.

WHAT TYPES OF CLOTHING ARE RECOMMENDED FOR TRAVELING IN EGYPT?
Egypt is a Muslim country and visitors should, as with any foreign country, make an effort to be respectful of the country’s customs and culture. There are many touristic Red Sea areas in Egypt, such as El Gouna and Hurghada, where clothing concerns are not necessary—in these areas you can wear any sort of beach attire you want. At other inland tourist areas, such as Cairo or Luxor, however, relatively conservative attire is recommended as Egyptians generally dress more modestly than in many parts of Europe and North America. Women especially should avoid tight clothing and revealing necklines, and keep their shoulders and knees covered. Men should avoid wearing shorts anywhere outside of Red Sea tourist areas. In general, in order to be respectful of local customs in Egypt, when visiting the sites of Luxor or Cairo, it’s best to wear loose-fitting pants and long-sleeve shirts.
CAN I TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS INSIDE THE TOMBS?
No, photography inside tombs, including the pyramids and Abu Simbel, is strictly forbidden, which has led to all cameras being banned from the Valley of the Kings (you have to leave all cameras at the x-ray point at the second entrance). Excessive flash damages the paintwork inside the tombs and so, because of people who ignore the rules, draconian measures have been implemented to safeguard these ancient works of art. The simple rule of thumb when visiting sites is: no cameras inside, cameras are okay outside.
IS TIPPING COMMON IN EGYPT?
As with most European and North American countries, tipping is graciously accepted in Egypt. A 10% tip at restaurants and to guides and drivers is standard. Unfortunately, at major tourist sites like the Pyramids of Giza or the tombs of the Valley of the Kings, touts aggressively hustle for tips by allowing you to take photos in areas where it’s clearly posted as prohibited (such as inside the tombs). Please refrain from perpetuating this problem by not paying to take pictures.
WHAT ELECTRICAL PLUGS AND VOLTAGE ARE USED IN EGYPT?
Egypt has a voltage supply of 220V and the plugs are the 2-round pin type that are common throughout Europe.
IS ALCOHOL AVAILABLE IN EGPYT?
Egypt is a Muslim country, therefore alcohol is not readily available outside of tourist areas and western-style hotels/resorts.
